Ok for those of who know me know I don’t hold back when I hear crappy music…
If it’s bad music I will have issues playing it at a wedding.
Here is a list of songs I « dislike » playing…
I don’t like to say hate to music for someone out there might actually like these songs… sadly… here are my top songs?I dislike playing at a Wedding
SORRY IF I OFFEND ANYBODY… these are just my opinions
Let’s count them down in my?Casey Kasem?Voice
Number 10. PSY – GANGNAM STYLE (?????)
Your 15 minutes are up PSY…
Fresh of the presses of annoying music this song is already been murdered. I am not looking forward to playing it anymore ever. I feel like asking people to donate money to charity for me to play it. What do you think?
Number 9. Macarena – Los Del Rio
Take a moment to think about how tacky it was back in the 90’s. Now fast forward to today where everyone in the world laughs at it because of the sheer stupidity of it.
Number 8.?If you Wanna be Happy?-?Jimmy Soul
Easy to see why.?Some sample lyrics
« Don’t let your friends tell you you have no taste
go ahead and marry anyway
Her face is ugly her eyes don’t match
take it from me shes a better catch. »
Got it… Good
Number 7. « Cotton Eye Joe » – The Rednex
I do admit to buying this on vinyl back in the 90’s. I had a moment of weakness I guess. This song makes absolutely no sense to pay at a wedding yet I hear it all the time! If you happen to find someone who likes this song and who is sober please put them in a mental institution.
Number 6. « My heart will go on » Celine Dion
Can anything be worse than the lamest most overplayed cheesy ballad of all time. I’ve heard this song enough for 17 lifetimes.
One of the worst tackiest ballads ever about… wait for it… a ship that sank
Number 5. « Rico Suave » Geraldo
Imagine cheesy 90’s rap. Now add a Spanish accent with jean jackets + bandanas dancing in spandex flashy colours… just watch the video… you’ll see… it’s not pretty
Number 4. « I will survive » Gloria Gaynor
The reason this song is here is the context of the song not the song itself. A song about a bitter heartbreak and how she thought she would die from it. Not wedding appropriate. It will kill for an office party for ladies in their 50’s…?however not at a wedding.
Number 3. « Let’s get it on » Marvin Gaye
Great song. Bad song for a wedding. wanna see your relatives dance to this…
AWKWARD!!!
Number 2. « Chicken Dance » Various Horrible Artists that should die
It was a close tie for number 1. If they are going to play this song at a wedding you are going to bring earplugs!!! Brutal!!!
and my number 1 song…. drumroll please….

Number 1. « YMCA » – Village People
Now before I even start on this one think of how many times you have heard this in your life.
Enough right.
Do you really need to hear it again?
Honestly we’re better than that aren’t we?
These lyrics don’t say wedding do they
« You can get yourself cleaned, you can have a good meal »
My entire marketing campaign for 2013 – 2014 was based on this song and how I don’t play it!!
Be sure to comment and share
Peace and love
DJ Shane Oliveira
Wow i completly forgot about Rico Suave thanks for F@^king my day up lol
Sorry Johnny it had to be done!
hahahahaa!! I agree on ALL points!! My wedding in 2000, I made sure to include in my contract « NO Macarena NO YMCA ». I told them « if someone requests those songs, make sure to refuse. If they don’t like it, tell them to see the bride » 😀
Which is a good policy. That way your goal of not having music you hate on your wedding will happen. Give the DJ the power to say no to your guests.
I usually say something like the following:
« The bride and groom asked me specifically not to play these songs. Are there any other songs you may like to hear? »
It works like a charm.
OMG! These are horrible songs. I would never play any of these on my own. The only 2 that I played were »I will Survive » and »Coton eye Joe » and I was forced to by the groom.
When it affects the bottom line I understand. I’ve been there too
