I truly have a great job. For that reason people do think it’s easy. They look at a DJ and say things like « I can do that » « anybody can play music ». The problem is that you may be able to play cocktail music during the dinner, however adapting to a crowd when people are dancing is a very complicated task. It’s an ever evolving thing when you are a dj to adapt to a crowd. You have to look at a crowd and assume what will get them up dancing or keep them dancing.
The reason it does looks easy is at times is because there is a lot of prep work that goes into it before you even show up. Getting the right music, having special songs set aside, knowing what kind of age group you are playing to.
When it goes well it does look super easy and to be honest it is really fun to be involved with a great party. It’s very rewarding. Seeing people have a good time and dancing and the bride and groom smiling are all things that truly make it my job rewarding.
It looks really easy to be a DJ… Only if you’re prepared.
Not just anybody can be a DJ ———>?Click here for a nice example
When I do a sweet 16 I usually have a tough night. It comes with being a teenager… I remember going to school dances and parties and having so much fun when the music was right. Teenagers can be brutal when you are not prepared or not patient. Those younger crowds who are in an environment that they are not usually in and forget sometimes how to act. Most of the times if you don’t prepare well you are dead.
I must say I was pretty lucky this year with the sweet 16’s I did. Most notably the party I did for Ashley was an awesome time. The venue was The Firm Lounge which was perfect for the event and the kids got to be like adults for a night. They responded beautifully and partied all night. It truly was a an awesome night and Ashley and her friends had an awesome time.

Another great blog!
Nice work Shane, i agree with you it’s not as easy as it apears. i did a vid for youtube to try and explain how beeing a dj roady was alot of hard work, I even received an email from a Dj in the States asking me for my ok to use the vid i did to try and make some costumers understand why we charge what we charge. That was just as a roady, now imagine all the work that the dj as to do and all the curve balls the clients or guest trow at us.
Keep up your great work my friend
