I know this may sound ignorant and ridiculous, but here are some tips on how to hear your request played at an event. I am posting this is because I think some people need a gentle reminder that a DJ is not there to be your ipod at an event but to make everyone dance at an event or wedding.

Now let’s start off with the approach you make. Here are some DO’s and DON’Ts for handling your dj. Follow these steps and I am sure you will hear your good and horrible requests.

DON’T walk up and place your drink on the dj table and start talking to dj (the dj will be looking at your drink and hope it doesn’t spill on the equipment and forget about your request).

DO request music that makes?sense?in the venue.?Iron Maiden?is not always good choice of music for a wedding.

DON’T say to the dj « Play my song NEXT or the world will?spontaneously combust. » (He or she doesn’t believe you)

Do thank the dj if he has played your request. Honestly this is huge. When someone says thank you it does go a long way and your chances of getting another request is good as well.

DON’T request a slow song while everyone is dancing to fast dancing music. (if you do ask him or her to play it later on)

DO dance when your requested song comes on. (Even if you crappy song clears the dance floor)

DON’T tell the dj you used to dj. (He or she doesn’t care, and hears that every single night they work).

DO request 1 song at a time.

DON’T ask the dj « what songs do you have? » most of us have over 50,000 songs and don’t really wanna go through our entire library with you.
