What is a Hybrid DJ?

By janvier 16, 2012club dj, mobile dj, wedding dj

Well to me a Hybrid DJ is someone that can work any crowd.?Young?or Old and anything in between. Someone who can do a long set of any style of music. Someone that can spin at a club, wedding, lounge, bar, pub, birthday party, 5 a 7 and anything in-between.

For example if you have 100 people at your wedding you need to have?someone that will work and be able to play a song for everyone. For myself this has been a really good attribute that people compliment me on. When someone in their 60’s sees me a dj they have no idea idea that I am able easily do a 3 hour set of 60’s music. It’s the ability to adapt to your surrounding and work the crowd.

Whenever I meet a new dj’s they always tell me they can play to any crowd. Then no less than 5 minutes later they tell me they play what they like to play at an event.

NEWS FLASH:NOBODY CARES WHAT YOU LIKE!!!

You don’t want to be the?DJ IN LOVE WITH HIMSELF

The client wants to hear what will work for their event. What you listen to in your bedroom is fantastic and that is the best place to sample and try things out, however you are now being paid to work… so be a good boy or girl and work the crowd.

We all saw this footage a few years back of the old dj guy that was the HAPPIEST DJ ALIVE.

Here’s why to me this guy is funny but doesn’t work.

  1. The guy?attitude?is great! Refreshing to see a guy so into what he does. However he’s so caught up in being a star that he doesn’t even mix the two songs. Substance before style always.
  2. He’s making more noise than the guests. Something tells me this party suuuucked.
  3. Thirdly it’s an?interactive?dj that can involve other people. He’s in his own little world and just wants people to look at him and not to be let in. Here’s another clip of the HAPPIEST DJ. This time he’s being way more interactive and talking to the crowd. Involves people and to me is a better example of a wedding dj, however putting this guy in a club is more of a?gimmick than anything else.
When booking a DJ for your event think always does my DJ match the crowd? Cause if it doesn’t it really doesn’t matter what price you get him or her for, it just isn’t going to work.

For a DJ it’s way more rewarding?to be involved in a great gig where the client is happy then to just book as many events as you can. It is not unheard of for a DJ to let a client know that they aren’t a good fit for their party. It’s refreshing to be honest in an industry that can be full of BS.
