Ever been to a crappy party, event or wedding… I think we all have at one point or another. Just a weird vibe, possibly bad organizing, nobody really wants to be there. Either way you just want the night to fly by, but it just isn’t.

Being the DJ of a party where nobody wants to dance sucks. It’s one of those nights where I wanna just put wanna bash my head into the DJ console. It’s the worst feeling ever. I’m ready to snap and nobody seems to want to party tonight.

You play every type of style of music,

nothing…

You try and do something that forces them to interact,

nothing…

I try not to take it personally, however it’s hard not to. Everyone there does not want to be there. No vibe at all.

Now I can never promise everyone can have fun at an event. So those that are interacting with me and are responding are gonna get what they want. I have to always go with majority rules.

I have no problem at all playing for 5 people that are dancing all night. It’s better to have that than nothing at all.

The usual big factor is if the bride and groom dance usually other people dance. It’s kinda a given. ?So what I usually do is try to get them going if they aren’t already going. If that doesn’t work I am in big trouble. Once again I only take it personally because I want to people to have a good time and put a lot in what I do.

If thinks it’s bad for you… just think I have to stay till the end of the night!!!

    Hey Shane! nice blog!

My first ever gig i did was a wedding back in August 2011 and it was according to the bride going to be an easy one because all her side loved to dance to any type of music… Well the day of the wedding no one was dancing well i had like 10 – 15 ppl dancing on and off but it would last 1 song and then to the bar they whent or outside for a smoke. I played their requests and they would no even dance to it. They would just listen to the songs instead. As you mentionned if the BnG don’t dance (in this case they where more into drinking and smoking outside) well no one wants to dance. I even had to have ppl track them down when it was time for cake cutting and other formalities. i felt like crap all night cause i wanted it to be a party to remember (obviously it was my first) i had big expectations for it.

Let’s hope that those types of events don’t happen too often. I have luckily have had some other party’s since then and they went well. So I guess there’s some hope for us Djs who take pride in saying that we did a great job because ppl where dancing all night.

Thanks for the comment Johnny. It’s tough some nights as a DJ. You want people to get their value when it comes to entertainment but it doesn’t seem like they want to party. You can never force people to have fun!
